Owner and Family Law Solicitor

Sarah Birdsey

Sarah is the Owner of our firm and Head of Family Law. Sarah completed her training contract at the firm and qualified in 2008 showing that consistency is key.

Sarah has extensive experience in all areas of family law including divorce, financial relief and children matters. Her cases on financial relief often involve complex business and foreign assets. Sarah has good working relationships with specialist barristers, financial advisors and other experts to call upon their expertise where required.
Sarah is also regularly instructed in respect of pre and post nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.
Client’s and colleagues recognise Sarah’s personal, down to earth and sensitive approach but she is someone who is not afraid to fight for clients’ to ensure a fair outcome. Sarah is regularly recommended and has built up strong reputation in the family law field.
Sarah was featured on The Times Radio discussing upcoming change to the divorce law. Sarah was also president of Trafford Law Society for 4 years during which time she was able to use this role to raise vital funds and awareness of local charities.

In 2023, Sarah took over as the new owner of Nicholls Solicitors, almost 20 years after undertaking work experience as an undergraduate.

Sarah also volunteers for Rights of Women and when she is not working can often be found running or spending time with her family.

Head of Litigation

Patrick Nicholls

Patrick founded the firm in 1989 and is now our Head of Litigation.

Patrick has huge experience and expertise in litigation, commercial property matters and family law. His robust and tenacious approach makes him a powerful opponent in any litigious matter. Patrick has dealt with a number of very high value claims and complex partnership and business disputes. Patrick’s wealth of experience is invaluable in advising clients.
Patrick is the head of conveyancing and has the all important attention to detail required to advise fully on complex conveyancing issues.
Patrick also has a PhD in Law and has taught at the University of Manchester for many years, teaching both family law, land law, jurisprudence and insurance law. He has co-written the Family Law Textbook which students rely on and his links with the university mean that we often have students from all over the world undertaking work experience.

Patrick lives in Wilmslow and when he is not working he enjoys spending time on his canal boat, gardening and walking. Patrick found gardening particularly helpful during lockdown and has started our own Nicholls gardening club sharing plants, advice- recognising the mental health benefits to colleagues.

Wills & Probate Manager

Matthew Nicholls

Matthew is our Wills and Probate manager and has over 20 years experience, having graduated in law in Liverpool with LL.B. (Hons).

Matthew is very approachable and is always happy to talk things through before engaging a client. He is enthusiastic about his work and is keen to ensure that his cases are dealt with efficiently. Matthew is very much costs aware and is careful to ensure his clients get good value as well as good service.

Out of work, Matthew enjoys spending time in his garden.

Solicitor and Head of Conveyancing

Adnan Khurshid

Adnan is a Solicitor and joined us in 2023 as our Head of Residential Conveyancing.

Adnan is a Solicitor and joined us in 2023 as our Head of Residential Conveyancing. He has quickly become a key member of the team at Nicholls Solicitors.

Adnan keeps calm under the pressure of conveyancing and is able to guide clients calmly through the potentially stressful process of buying and selling their homes. Adnan deals with all residential conveyancing matters, including sales and purchases, transfers of equity, re-mortgages and equity release.

In his spare time Adnan enjoys going to the gym and is a keen supporter of Manchester United.

Paralegal

Isabel Makin

Isabel joined us in 2022 as a Paralegal whilst undertaking her Undergraduate Degree at the University of Manchester.

Isabel joined us in 2022 as a Paralegal whilst undertaking her Undergraduate Degree at the University of Manchester. She has already gained valuable experience in litigation, conveyancing and family matters.

Client’s appreciate Isabel’s empathetic and kind approach in family matters and she is a very efficient and able member of the team. We look forward to supporting her on her journey to becoming a fantastic solicitor.

In her spare time Isabel likes to go to the gym, has recently taken up running and is an excellent baker!

Jessica Baillie

Jessica is our Paralegal and is due to start her training alongside the SQE in 2024.

Jessica is our Paralegal and is due to start her training alongside the SQE in 2024. She is currently gaining experience in a range of areas including litigation, conveyancing and family matters. We look forward to seeing Jessica gain more knowledge and become a brilliant solicitor.

In her spare time Jessica likes to go to the gym, socialise with her friends and spend time with family. Jessica is also a volunteer reporter for the Justice Gap.

Legal Secretary

Kerry Bradburn

Kerry is our Legal Secretary and joined the firm in 2023.

Prior to joining Nicholls Solicitors Kerry had worked for a number of years for a long standing sole practitioner covering a range of areas of law including family, wills and probate and conveyancing.
Kerry is incredibly efficient and has a huge amount of knowledge in the legal area so is readily able to support clients with their queries and aid our solicitors with their work too.

In her spare time Kerry enjoys socialising and spending time with family.

Digital Marketing Manager

Emily Bradshaw

Emily joined us in 2018 and supports the firm with it's online marketing.

Emily joined Nicholls Solicitors in 2018 and assists all fee earners in their roles. With a diploma in Creative Media, she supports the firm with it's online marketing.

Beyond the office, Emily is a new mum and treasures precious time with her family, as well as the odd Harry Potter Marathon!

Administrative Assistant

Suzie Nicholls

Suzie is our Administrative Assistant and ensures the office runs smoothly.

Suzie Nicholls is our very efficient and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant. Often described as a meticulous organizer, Suzie ensures the office runs smoothly.

Suzie never misses a Manchester United home game with her season ticket at Old Trafford and in her spare time she drives her Aston Martin!

CILEX Conveyancer

Beth Altindis

Beth Altindis has a degree in Business and Organisational Management and after running her own business for 15 years decided it was time for a change.

She joined Nicholls Solicitors in 2016 part time and following a relocation to London Beth re-joined in 2020 working remotely.
Beth is an associate member of CILEx and specialises in domestic conveyancing with extensive experience. Client’s are continually impressed by Beth’s efficiency, thoroughness and down to earth nature.

In her spare-time Beth enjoys running, cooking, and gardening. When she gets the chance, she likes to spend time in Turkey either in the sun or on the ski slopes.

Cashier/Bookkeeper

Angela Allen

Angela Allen is the firms’ cashier/bookkeeper and accountant having worked for Nicholls Solicitors via her former employer for the last 25 years.

Angela is know for her attention to detail and accuracy and has a wealth of experience to assist our fee earners and staff. Angela also works part time at another firm as Senior Accountant.

Outside of work Angela is involved with doing accounts and bookkeeping for Curzon Ashton Football Club and enjoys swimming, Zumba, travel and socialising.

Consultant

Kirsty Black

Kirsty Black is a Consultant Solicitor. Kirsty has a wealth of experience dealing with litigation, family law, probate and personal injury.

Kirsty undertook her training contract with the firm throughout 2006-2008 and later spent several years practicing as a qualified advocate in the Isle of Man, giving her this very specialist knowledge of cross border jurisdictions.
Kirsty deals predominantly with family law but also has extensive experience of civil litigation (including contentious probate, lands tribunal disputes and contract claims). In family law Kirsty has represented many clients in relation to divorce, financial relief and complex children’s applications. Kirsty is often recognised for her tenacious, no nonsense approach and her efficient manner.

Kirsty lives in Bramhall and in her spare time likes to socialise with friends and spend time with her family.
